Agua Boa Amazon Lodge is an Orvis endorsed lodge and was voted as one of the top ten fly fishing lodges in the world by Forbes Magazine spring 2010. The number of guests who return year after year are testament to the fact that they also believe that Agua Boa Amazon Lodge is a world class destination for fly fishing.
With an Ecotourism Reserve status, and its permanent protection from the INPA (the Brazilian Environmental Institute) the Agua Boa and its beautiful surroundings are protected from illegal commercial fishing, hunting and deforestation. The policy of using only single barbless hooks and only allowing catch and release ensure the variety of fish to be found whilst fishing the Agua Boa is truly amazing. This has led to a large population of top quality fish that has been allowed to develop over the years. The added protection given to the region provides a wonderful environment for species such as the endangered Amazon River Turtle, giant Amazon River Otters, Bracket Deer and Jaguar to name a few.
The Lodge has been lovingly constructed on the high river bank, some 30 feet above the Agua Boa River itself. Built largely of local materials to the highest standards, it boasts a superbly equipped club house, complete with large dining room and lounge / living room, bar and games room. The Agua Boa Lodge, with its high level of service, combined with the friendly atmosphere, makes it the perfect destination for all discerning fly fishermen. Set in landscaped gardens the Lodge House is comfortably furnished and equipped with all modern facilities, including television with English channels, a bar and a games room. Wireless internet access is available at no additional cost in both the Lodge House and the individual chalets
Breakfast is buffet style, with a choice of hot and cold dishes, breads, pastries, cold meat, fresh fruit and cereals. In addition, fresh fruit juices and coffee are freely available. Lunch may be taken either at the Lodge, where our chef will provide a cooked meal, or a packed lunch can be prepared in the morning for those who prefer to stay on the river all day. A three course dinner, with wine, is served in the dining room each evening. The main course is a buffet, with a choice of several meat and fish dishes, all freshly prepared by our chef. Throughout the day and evening, snacks and hot and cold drinks are always available.
Fly-fishermen from around the world have been astounded and charmed by the spectacular fishing and unspoilt rain forest surroundings of the Agua Boa. The sight-fishing for the legendary Tucunare, Aruan and other denizens of our crystal clear waters is world class and many regard the experience as one of the highlights of their extensive fly fishing careers.
All clients fish two anglers to a boat with one guide. The local guides have extensive knowledge and experience of fly fishing for the various species of fish on the Agua Boa. The clear water of the Agua Boa lends itself ideally to fly fishing. Fishermen visiting the area have caught eighteen different species of fish on the fly in the waters of the Agua Boa. This unspoilt wilderness is sure to be home to other species of fish that have not yet succumbed to the numerous fly patterns cast on the Agua Boa. The clarity of the water allows sight casting to cruising Peacock Bass as well as the elusive Arowana as they glide across the fine sandy bottomed shallows. The light coloured sands provide the perfect background for spotting wonderful and varied colours found in the different species of Peacock Bass. Of the six known species of Peacock Bass, four have been taken on the fly at Agua Boa. Their ferocious and violent top water strikes often result in the fish leaping several feet clear of the water, before powering away on one of its explosive runs. This amazing world class fly fishing destination is a must for any fly fishing enthusiast.
